I ATE NEW YORK. AND LOVED IT!!!

I just came back from a 2 week trip to New York City! Believe it or not, I was a little cool to the idea of returning after almost a decade. You see the last time I was there was back in 1997- and my experience left me thinking I would never go back. It was noisy, dirty and unsafe!! I could not understand the allure.

I applaud the city council and Mayor Bloomberg for turning that wretched city into a wonderland of fun, fun and more fun. It's a different world! I won't say I am happy about all the super-ultra-wealthy Republicans who now own most of the city, but I will say it's much cleaner, a lot less noisier, and even safe!! ... and now trans-fat-free!

The best thing about the new and improved NYC is the restaurant scene. I seriously ate my way through New York. A lot of people (i.e Republicans) were outraged about this trans-fat ban that was looming. But, guess what- it worked. Nobody is suffering, the world did not end and now I can enjoy a double cheeseburger with bacon at "The Corner Bistro" and a couple of martinis without worrying about what I am putting into my body! (apparently they had to raise their prices and extra $.50 per burger to accommodate the new ingredients- boo hoo!! They still make a nice profit!).

This just shows- if the Republicans hate it, I love it. I hope Bloomberg and the City Council see this as a sign that, gasp, Government can actually help people. In all seriousness, I know that the trans-fat ban does little to help curb the growing obesity and health epidemic in America, but it's a start. I think they could easily extend the ban to limit the amount of total fat in foods, and even impose healthier choices on menus. It wouldn't hurt if the local pub offered whole wheat buns as an option. They never will, of course, unless they are told to do so.

I like to drink, but I could live with a 2 drink limit per person, per bar. Limiting the amount of alcohol consumption in this country would save a ton of lives and a lot of money. I would even go so far as to suggest that the local government should send out vouchers to everyone in the city or state that would allow them to have no more than 16 drinks per month. Or maybe some sort of debit card. It would cost a lot, but it would save billions in health care costs in the long run.

Anyway- I am happy that New York is much better than it was: clean and safe. It looks like those so-called "islamo facists" that obliterated the world trade center had something to teach us after all!!

Government can actually help people.

You mean the nanny state can run our lives. Great.

Is that like how the nanny state "helped people" with the "War on Poverty"?

$6 TRILLION, thousands of families destroyed, still have poverty, no exit strategy.

But we can't examine the lib's results, only their good intentions.

Hateful!!

thatgayconservative said we can't examine the lib's results, only their good intentions.

That's cuz the republicans keep sabotaging the dems efforts!!

BTW, all over the world, and most parts of America, double cheeseburgers and bacon are not cooked in any kind of fat, other than their own. Oh, and neither are martinis.

As far as that goes, you said you could have your burger and martinis (so two years ago) without worrying about what you put into your body. Then you turn around and say that we need to have limits on alcohol consumption. Interesting. Do you mean limits on everybody else but you?

Either way, what you're proposing is more intrusion on people's lives.

Such as....?

BTW, what's "hateful" about pointing out the colossal, miserable failures of liberalism?
